The Kovic Foundation took root after the 3 founding brothers returned from an expedition in Europe. The 3 brothers saw how children lived abroad and realized that children are the future of the world. Once returning to the United States of America, the 3 Jurkovic brothers decided they would start The Kovic Foundation to combat against child malnourishment and hunger all around the globe. It has become the mission of The Kovic Foundation that no child, worldwide, shall go hungry and continue to be malnourished.
“A happy and healthy community is not a fairytale. All you need is support.”
Today’s youth face the daily obstacle of securing their humanity through the provisions of food and education. The right to food is a human right derived from the International Covenant on Economic, Social And Cultural Rights (ICESCR). The United Nations Special Report states the “right to adequate food is a human right, inherent to all people, to have regular, permanent and unrestricted access, whether directly or by means of financial purchases, to quantitatively and qualitatively adequate and sufficient food corresponding to the cultural traditions of people to which the consumer belongs, and which ensures a physical and mental, individual and a collective fulfilling and dignified life free of fear.”
It is the mission, duty and purpose of the Kovic Foundation to address, educate, coordinate and provide aid and relief in order to eradicate chronic malnutrition and hunger on local and global levels. The Kovic Foundation will provide services within the scope of the foundation’s Articles of Incorporation and believes that it is our duty to be available in times when we are capable of fulfilling one of the most important, yet basic, human needs for ordinary people in these times of extraordinary tribulation. The Kovic Foundation believes that the right to adequate food is realized when every child, alone or in community with others, has the physical and economic access to adequate food or means for its procurement.
Currently The Kovic Foundation is providing under privileged children who cannot afford a hot school meal an opportunity to be fed by subsidizing the child with a hot meal. We believe that this will help children who are prone to malnutrition due to financial hardships continue to be successful by providing a hot meal to fuel their brains and keep them engaged and active throughout the school day.
We also engage in disaster relief services children in affected areas locally and around the globe. The Kovic Foundation believes that by providing these types of services, we are furthering our mission, by responding to the children who are suffering these hardships.
We aim to make fresh food accessible to all children locally and worldwide.
